Surveys and Ground Investigations

The Friar Park development presents an opportunity to bring a mix of new high-quality homes and enhanced open spaces to Friar Park by regenerating a major brownfield site.

Historically, parts of the site have been used as sewage treatment works, a large aluminium foundry and an animal by-product works, as well as being impacted by mining for both coal and ironstone.

To help inform the regeneration plans for the site, it is necessary to investigate the ground and ground water conditions, and to collect samples and data to understand the base line conditions.

This activity will involve machinery drilling holes and excavating trial pits across the site to examine the ground conditions beneath.

The machinery operating on the site will include drilling rigs and JCB excavators at several different locations across the site at any one time. Machinery will be securely stored in a compound on the site overnight under the surveillance of security personnel. Therefore, traffic movements on and off the site during the works will be minimal.

The investigations are due to commence at the end of June and last for approximately 6 weeks. All work will be undertaken between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.

The works will be undertaken in accordance with best practice with appropriate health and safety provision at all times. All working areas will be secured to prevent public access during the works and all excavations will be back-filled once complete. Other public areas around the proposed site will still be accessible by the public.

If you have any queries or concerns about these works, please get in touch with the Friar Park Urban Village Community Team.
